Bowen Technique can then benefit the mother to be, with many of the changes that occur through pregnancy, morning sickness, tiredness, lethargy, tender breasts, back pain, neck and shoulder tension,   aching legs, swollen ankles, mood swings, constipation, and digestive problems.

The practise of Bowen can be done through light clothing, sitting, lying on the side, or even standing up. The very nature of Bowen ensures your comfort at all times.

This massage technique is so unique and because it’s so gentle, it is safe for very young babies and youngsters; both of whom really enjoy the treatment immensely.

During pregnancy the body undergoes many changes and  extra tension in the muscular skeletal system, from hormones, and your centre of gravity shifting to cater for additional weight a pregnancy massage can help you feel more relaxed enabling you to enjoy your pregnancy more. A gentle, soothing relaxation massage or specialised pregnancy massage during this special time can help reduce the symptoms of oedema in pregnancy. Not only will excess fluid be reduced but you can reap the rewards as other symptoms such as sleeplessness, aches and pains are reduced. It is indicated that the duration of labour can be shortened if regular massage is practised. But don’t hold your breath – the jury is still out on that one for many people. However, in saying that – massage is an effective tool, widely used as an alternative natural method of pain relief during labour.

A Pregnancy Massage can be performed to your needs – from thirty minutes to one hour. This can change if you are experiencing any level of discomfort. Massage studies demonstrate positively just how beneficial therapeutic massage can be. That said, you should become aware of a noticeable difference in your health and well-being in the third trimester if your pattern of regular massage treatments increase. From great to wonderful is a term often attributed to many pregnancy treatments.

Massage can help ease many common symptoms or recurring problems during this period of pregnancy, such as cramps in the legs, lower back pain, sciatica and tension in the shoulders which can cause some pain.

You will find it more comfortable and it is much easier in the first trimester for you to lay face down, primarily because the growing baby is not visibly pronounced. At around 25 weeks or when it becomes too uncomfortable, we can use support which will allow a pregnant woman to enjoy a massage while laying on her front. This type of massage naturally eases the pressure placed on the lower back. Some women may find it more comfortable to be massaged in a semi-sitting position supported by pillows. The Pregnancy Massage can also be conducted while you are lying on your side aided by pillows.

Your comfort and safety is my priority. For this reason I will only conduct a pregnancy massage if you are 12+ weeks gestation and not experiencing complications.

As a competent and caring therapist of Therapeutic Massage and practitioner of Bowen Therapy, I am conscious that your pregnant body is not public property. Nor should it be. Strangers gravitate towards an obviously pregnant woman to pat, discuss, comment and provide unsolicited advice.

As an experienced practitioner, I am respectful of the stage of your pregnancy and mindful of your modesty. Your comfort and concerns are a priority. I will  tailor your massage to suit your individual needs.

You, your body and your baby are going through so much together. Although it may not seem like it, your body is rapidly changing daily. Hormones rage throughout your body and ligaments stretch.
